Home Sustainability Assessor

Juergen KleinHello,
my name is Juergen Klein, and I would like to be your Home Sustainability Assessor.
First let me make one thing clear: I am an entirely independent assessor! My visit to your home will be completely free of any other business interest. Why am I mentioning this? Some assessors are involved in other business interests alongside their assessor work; this is completely legal, but it could create a conflict of interest, for example, in the case of insulation or solar installers. My work is completely neutral, focussing on the best result for you!

Please read: I regret recent developments. It has never been my intention to disappoint any of my clients for which I have performed a Home Sustainability Assessment. I am deeply disappointed with the actions the Labor Government, the Department of Environment in particular, has taken in regard of the Green Loans Program. The recent changes to the scheme demonstrate clear signs of policy on the run, they border on deceit, and show no compassion or consideration for the members of the Australian public affected by them. I'm sorry but I will have no part in the continuation of this program. You may contact me for private assessments and advice on sustainable living. I promise you that I will charge very reasonable rates for this service, which you could recoup within a short time in savings on your energy bills.
A new statement, released by Hon. Peter Garrett on Friday, the 19th of February 2010, advertised fundamental changes to the Green Loans Program!

If you want to know me a little better then read on... I'll tell you a bit about my background: I migrated to Australia in 1993 and have lived in the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales since then. So you could call me a long time local... Before coming to Australia I owned a series of small businesses in Germany, my birth country. In the early 80s I started a production and wholesale distribution of recycled paper products. I was always interested in a healthy living and working environment but, once I dealt with recycled paper, my awareness of environmental issues became sharper, partially through input from my customers. Even after I sold this business and moved on to the next project, I didn't lose this interest. During all my ventures I avoided as much as possible the use of disposable materials, recycled waste long before it became a requirement, used low-VOC products to furnish my office, etc.

After I arrived in Australia I fulfilled one of my dreams and owner-built a small house near Bangalow in 1995. This incorporated many of the items you might find in the recommendations of your Home Sustainability Assessment Report: light coloured roofing, insulation in ceilings, walls, and floors (where needed), solar hot water system, cross ventilation, proper aspect for solar gain in winter, little glazing or proper shading on the western side, rainwater collection, greywater recycling (not legal at the time), and much more.
During the past years I have either travelled overseas or designed internet pages, in fact I have lived from the internet for a while, so creating this web site for the Home Sustainability Assessments was a logical step, particularly since I like to keep up with most things current...

I am looking forward to hearing from you!

(And don't worry if you cannot pronounce my name - smile)
